Located at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, NW, in the heart of the Nation’s Capital, the White House is the home of every US president except George Washington. Irishman James Hoban designed America’s most famous house in 1792. It was known officially as the Executive Mansion until 1902, when President Theodore Roosevelt rechristened it the White House, long its informal name. The Washington Monument the monument honoring our first president, George Washington, is the tallest structure in the nation’s capital and towers 555 feet above the National Mall. While available for viewing, the inside of the monument is currently closed to visitors.
